Name Change: We’re now Harnett Regional Water

The Harnett County Department of Public Utilities is proud to announce it has a new name. We are now Harnett Regional Water. If you haven’t notice yet, you’ll start to see the new name on your water bills and on water towers.

The change was made for several reasons, but the most important had to do with confusion and who we serve. Here’s what we mean.

Confusion: As the Harnett County Department of Public Utilities, many people thought we worked on roads, provided electric service and managed trash collection. Hopefully our new name makes it clear that we are a regional provider of water and wastewater services.

Who we serve: When we started providing water and wastewater services more than 50 years ago, we were exclusively focused on serving residents of Harnett County. Our region has grown a lot since then, and so have we. We now serve more than 125,000 people from Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina over to the Fort Bragg area.

We never want to forget our roots, or our core territory, so we felt it was important to keep Harnett in our name. Then, we simply added the words “Regional Water” to highlight our larger service territory and to clarify what we do.
